Dictionary tables were introduced in SAS Version 6.07, in the early 1990's. These metadata tables contain information that is often difficult, and sometimes impossible, to obtain by other means. Yet it is both perplexing and unfortunate that they still appear to be on the outside of many SAS programmers' Bag of Tricks.
