Since a Wiki is self-configurable (I mean that we the users can do what we want to it, without waiting for a webmaster to do it for us), that should mean that if we the users wish, we could impose a hierarcical structure on it in order to make it easier to navigate it, but of course, users would not have to use the hierarchary, but of course, gardners could move things around.  --Hamer 15:51, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

It's been a while since a comment has been added here and so I have a suggestion.  At a previous SGF there were some business cards with the sasCommunity.org logo and information.  They had many uses at the SAS Global Forum and would be good to do again.  I still have a few if someone wants me to FAX how they looked. -- Charlie Shipp (talk) 10:45, 22 February 2014 (CST)

Question: problem with input statement
Dear Folks,

I am new to SAS and facing difficulty to understand the below point:

The below program is not giving correct output because the data after datalines statement is not following the spacing that is required as per variables defination in 'input' statement. Here, I have only 5 record lines and thus it is easy for me to change the spacing in datalines. But, if I have millions of records and data is coming as in current form (where the 'name' variable is having space in between, how would i define my 'input' statement so that output is correct as required. I tried using colon (:) in the input statement, but couldn't get the desired result. Please help!!

Can someone tell me the code to connect to SQL Server remotely through SAS ODBC so that I can see the schema as well?

I have the IP Addesss, User ID and Password.

Thanks,

Hi Mike. Via Googling your problem, I found these instructions. The code starts on page 10, and includes viewing the schema. Does this help?

How to add 24 hours to an existing time field
I am currently trying to find a way to add 24 hours to an existing time field. I've copied the case statement I'm attempting now and i'm getting an error that states

ERROR: Character format $ in PUT function requires a character argument.

1st try:

          case when t1.Day_Diff = 0 then t1.Time_Diff else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 1 then t1.Time_Diff + 24:00:00 else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 2 then t1.Time_Diff + 48:00:00 else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 3 then t1.Time_Diff + 72:00:00 else '0' end) end) end) end as Add_24hours

2nd try:

          case when t1.Day_Diff = 0 then strip(put(t1.Time_Diff,$32.)) else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 1 then strip(put(t1.Time_Diff + "24:00:00"T,$32.)) else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 2 then strip(put(t1.Time_Diff + "48:00:00"T,$32.)) else

          (case when t1.Day_Diff = 3 then strip(put(t1.Time_Diff + "72:00:00"T,$32.)) else "over" end) end) end) end as Add_24hours

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Towards a tidy talk page

I think this talk page needs to be tidier. The page should be a discussion about the content of the Main Page, rather than a public forum.

 • Questions from users seeking help should be moved to the respective user's talk page if a response is provided, rather than being left here.
 • Users listing employment opportunities should be directed to list there instead.
 • Ideas, suggestions and general comments about the sasCommunity should be moved to a more relevant wiki page.
 • Old comments and discussion should be moved to an archive area once they are no longer relevant.
 • The remaining discussion(s) should be refactored.

About Weekend Wiki Work/TIPs

I'm noticing that a daily tip was not available for today. . . . What about having a weekend wiki study assignment (HomeWork as it were.) For example here is one:

Use the 'edit' on any Article-Page to see how the wiki language-controls are written.
Look for examples of good page publishing and use 'edit' to see how it is done.

Some weekend wiki work (homework) could involve longer study assignments (for Fri-PM, Sat, and Sun.), from those that are doing so well assigned to eager students such as myself. Humbly, Charlie Shipp

Sounds good, Charlie! Use the 'submit a tip' process to submit your tip, and it can be scheduled.--Nancy 15:00, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
