sasCommunity Tip of the Day

The COMPRESS option can be specified at the GLOBAL level or the DATASET level.

The COMPRESS option (CHAR/BINARY) works differently for different SAS datasets depending on the type of data. Check first! Under some circumstances, instead of decreasing the size of the dataset, COMPRESS could lead to an increase of the SAS dataset size. It can also have a dramatic impact on CPU and real time.
