My first conference was SUGI '80
Date: February 18-20, 1980; Location: San Antonio, TX SAS/Stat was introduced by John Sall and SAS/Graph was introduced by Jim Goodnight, who rolled in 300 copies of the manual as a handout.
My first paper was delivered at SUGI '82
Date: February 14-17, 1982; Location: San Francisco, CA.
After my paper, “Standard Deviation Ellipse”, a person from Chevron told me he had the same idea, but it was deemed ‘proprietary’.
Started the Northrop SAS Users Group; the Southern California SAS Users Group; and was in on pre-JMP ideas for Macintosh. Dr. Al Best of the University of the Commonwealth of Virginia and I ran a 'birds-of-a-feather' evening event at SUGI conferences to lobby and make our case. One time Dr Best was speaking first, me second, and I was drawing out viewgraphs to present on all the reasons the Macintosh interface was the future, with SAS Institute Robert Cross sitting behind me watching. Those were great memories. When Dr. John Sall came out with JMP Version One, it exceeded even our wildest expectations! The rest "is History".
