Add SOCIAL item to Main Menu

From sasCommunity

I realize that this may strike some as a pretty weird suggestion for a technical community, but I'd like to suggest the addition of a "Social" item under the main menu.

We make a lot of friendships through the SAS community and there's no where to update the community when people get married, have a baby, get promotions, change companies, change projects, retire, become ill, pass away, etc.

For example, I learned at SGF that one of the key SAS Tech Support people, who most of us have worked with at one point or another and who used to attend SUGI/SGF every year, had taken ill and had cut back on her/his workload. I wouldn't post her/his name here without permission. But more importantly, there's really no where besides the gossip/grapevine to learn of such things; and that's pretty tacky. Hmm. Each user of this site can have a User: page (though most users, including the creator of this page, have not bothered to establish one). Once the page exists, the user is free to write on it, and mentioning career and personal milestones should fall within the terms of use. Finally, friends and acquaintances can "Watch" one another's pages. Wouldn't that pretty much do it?--Howles 21:38, 15 May 2008 (EDT)
