The DELETE procedure is a previously undocumented procedure that can be used to delete datasets. Although the DATASETS procedure can be used to delete datasets, the DELETE procedure has a simpler syntax and tends to run slightly faster.
While the DELETE procedure has been undocumented and deprecated, many programmers have continued to use this procedure in preference to the DATASETS procedure because the procedure clearly documents what is being done with a dataset.
Use the delete procedure with care. It has the potential to delete all the datasets in a library if a dataset name is omitted.
