Business Intelligence Data Analyst

SHEEO is seeking an energetic and motivated Data Analyst to join the SHEEO/NCES Network staff. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) funds the Network as part of its commitment to the interdependent roles of the federal government and the states in providing postsecondary education data and analysis. The Network was developed to promote cooperation, coordination and two-way communication between state higher education agencies, NCES, and other postsecondary entities in activities such as national data collection, survey design, and information dissemination.

The Data Analyst will be integral to SHEEO's mission to increase the capacity of state higher education leaders to access and use national data sources (e.g. census, bureau of labor statistics, IPEDS) for policy analysis and decision making.
This will include:

  • leading the data collection, analysis, and reporting of SHEEO's annual State Higher Education Finance study (SHEF);
  • supporting the development of a data infrastructure and set of metrics for the SHEEO Higher Education Policy Profiles;
  • serving as a primary resource on national data sources including the NCES Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS);
  • responding to formal and informal requests for information on postsecondary education;
  • performing special data analysis on state and national postsecondary policy issues of interest to our members and developing related written material; and
  • writing for the periodic publication Network News.

Minimum requirements include a baccalaureate degree and employment in a relevant field. A graduate degree and/or additional significant experience are highly desirable. Preferred candidates will have:

  • demonstrated experience in data management and database development in a relational database environment;
  • a keen interest in postsecondary education and public policy analysis;
  • experience with software such as SAS or other business intelligence reporting software;
  • a willingness to continue learning, the ability to see the big picture while understanding the related details, and a capacity for working collaboratively. Occasional national travel may be required.

SHEEO offers competitive salaries based on education and experience and excellent staff benefits. SHEEO is particularly interested in providing equal employment opportunities and employing a diverse staff.
