POSITION: SAS SYSTEMS ANALYST - HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY (direct consulting placement with our client in Indianapolis, Indiana)


LOCATION: Indianapolis, IN


DESCRIPTION: The Systems Analyst participates in all phases of the systems life cycle, although to varying degrees and plays a significant role in the development and implementation of systems using industry standard best practices.


REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge about HIPAA requirements, including EDI, privacy, and security regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with health care systems, data, and the health care domain, including managed care concepts.
  • Knowledge of various aspects of health insurance, including eligibility, referrals, claims, provider profiling, quality management, cost and utilization management, and capitation analysis.
  • Ability to analyze, model, and conduct gap analyses.
  • Ability to convert data from multiple, complex systems.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills. Ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Understanding of applications and infrastructure models as related to business goals.
  • Strong technical skills and extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design appropriate systems processes, which will provide a solid foundation for well-documented and reliable infrastructure.
  • Develop life cycle system projects from design through coding, testing, implementation, documentation, and end-user training. Assist users and IS team in testing and debugging programs, reports, and / or queries as needed.
  • Perform necessary programming to maintain and / or improve claims data warehouse and applications that manage the flow of information.
  • Maintain the consistency and integrity of data and data systems.
  • Troubleshoot and improve the collection, loading, and maintenance of data from external sources. Work with external parties to support the transmission of data.
  • Perform database cleaning and data validation. Ensure that data is accurate and ready for statistical modeling. Develop programs to perform quality assurance checks on study data. Develop and maintain new and ongoing data systems, including development of programs to extract and manipulate data in order to create data sets for analytical activities. Manipulate output for report tables and graphs, and validate programs according to planned requirements.
  • Work closely with the Quality Improvement Department to conduct health outcome research of utilization, pharmacy, and medical claims data to positively impact our decision making processes and the quality of care our members receive.
  • Consult with senior management to support improvement efforts.
  • Perform programming required for analysis and reporting. Generate tables, reports, listings, and graphs as required. Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of data and data reports.
  • Create graphical user interfaces as required.
  • Develop and maintain written documentation of systems.
  • Work directly with other team members. As a lead programmer, responsible for training other staff members to perform related activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of programming experience required, including SAS.
  • Three years health care data experience, including working with claims and reporting desired.
