sasCommunity Forum : sasCommunity - general site feedback : Titles of submissions

I wanted to make a comment regarding some of the posts that have already been made. When I look in the index (one case specifically is the index of SAS Code found under "Quick Links", but there are others) there are several submissions but the title is not as helpful as it could be. There are several that are under the letter 'U' and are titled things like "User:Statcompute/BlogEntry: 2007 April 22 01:29:05 EDT." Also Ron has several submissions such as "Macro: Nobs" while Don H has one title "Filelist Macro." I don't know how these titles are formed so perhaps it makes sense when viewed from another angle, but from the one view I've used it seems less than optimal.

Can we come up with a way to make things more consistent and/or informative? Now there are only 11 articles in this particular category so it's still a manageable problem. Perhaps in the near future it won't be so easy. Possible solutions: 1) Name it with respect to what it does rather than how it does it: e.g. "Nobs Macro" as opposed to "Macro Nobs." (or vice-versa). 2) Have it entered twice so it's shows up both places? 3) Accept the fact that life doesn't always fall into neat categories and learn to live with diversity <grin>. 4) Other ideas?

We can certainly come up with standards and conventions. But enforcing them is an entirely different matter as a user can create an article with any name that they choose to.

Hopefully a user will choose meaningful names when they do that, but you can't always count on that, so we might have to live with option 3.

WRT your concern about how the pages/articles are listed on the category page, any page can be tagged with a category by including a category tag like [[Category:category-name]] which causes the page to be listed on the category page using the page name (that is not changable). However you can control the letter which a page is listed under by including an optional field in the category tag to define the sort/grouping, e.g., [[Category:category-name|sort-group-value]].

And finally, it is possible to rename (really move) a page so that Macro Filelist and Filelist Macro would both bring you to the same page. If we can agree on a convention, a reasonable gardening activity is to use the move tab to make such changes.
