sasCommunity Forum : Suggestions for Forums and Categories : Integration and expansionBy Resa on Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:20 am
I am not sure, but I guess most of us are aware of the fact that there are already several SAS Forums However, IMHO, the activity there is quite low and the number of topics are very limited. Which I think is a shame. Being also quite active in the Linux community I have noticed that forums can be a great means for finding solutions and getting questions to your answers. However, this works only if the Forum is intuitive and easy to use. I, for example, believe the Ubuntu Forums are very well setup.
So my suggestions/questions are
- Why are the SAS Forums not being integrated? Now you have a chance of people posting same questions in different places.
- The main topics for a Forum -- IMHO -- should be in line with the solutions and products of SAS. For example I miss for example a forum on DI-Studio (just as there was not one for SAS/WA) and other BI and data warehousing related issues.

I agree that some integration between the already existing SAS Forum and this site should be done. One of the main reasons for this site is to provide one place to start our search for information. So, at a minimum, there should be links here to the information that is there. At a maximum, it should all be brought together under the Forums section of this site.

The forums page on sasCommunity.org does have a link to the forums on http://support.sas.com.
Discussions regarding forums on sasCommunity.org vs. the SAS support site are on the agenda.
Any/all input and opinions are welcome.

I know about the link, however I do believe that there is a difference between linking to and integration of.

Glad to hear that this is on the agenda. I really do hope that you can come to a situation where all forums are integrated and have a user-friendly lay-out.
IMHO it will improve the "community" feeling and hopefully will also result in a higher activity in the forums.

Is there yet anything to report on the discussion on the integration of the various forums?

The meeting of the SAS Global Users Group Executive Board is in July - we'll have an update after that. Thanks for your interest!

Look forward to hearing the result and I hope it will lead to an integration of sasCommunity.org and the forums.
