Generating a list of keyword-matching documents from a user-input value

I would like to be able to upload my newsletter PDF files, associate each file with a list of keywords (i.e. a mini-index), search each list for a match with a user-input value, then generate a list of keyword-matching documents. I have a JavaScript implementation at http://www.views-uk.demon.co.uk/Newsletter/newssearch.htm, but can't port this directly to sasCommunity.org.
Is there similar functionality already in MediaWiki?

That facility is not there. We are currently researching how to allow the search facility to be able to search certain file types, e.g. PDF files. Putting the keywords in an article that provides links to the newsletters would allow the newsletter to be identified from the current search.

Is it possible then to add keywords to a paragraph, or list item, in an article that are not displayed, but can be searched for? Or would I have to create a new article for each issue of my newsletter, with the keywords in that article?
I don't think I want to search the PDF files themselves, but would rather search a selected list of keywords to avoid false hits.

I cannot find it, but you could try looking at Wikimediato see if there is a syntax defined.

Depending on the search engine that SAScommunity.org uses, this could be possible.
I used Lucene in the past, and it is open-source and can do what you would like.
However, there is SOOOO MUCH MOREEEEE that search engines should be doing that are not doing. I have numerous ideas of what search engines can do but that is another life time.
