Here is one of my pet "features" of SAS :)

When you close SAS when there are unsaved changes to an open file in the program editor, you are prompted with "Do you want to save the changes to -- ****". The only options are Yes and No. If you can't remember what changes you made, you must save the file off to a different name and then come back and figure out if the changes were important. This is particularly difficult if the text was never saved, the therefore the window is named "Untitled#". Quite often the window in question isn't even in the forefront, so you have no idea what if anything it contains.

The simplest solution would be to add a "Cancel" button to this popup which would stop the shutdown process. This is the solution I have seen most frequently in other software. Another option would be to bring up the editor window scrolled to the last change made.

Ooh yes. For someone who opens up multiple programs at a time so pieces of code can be copied or used as a template for a new object, I may have a number of programs open and only want one of them to be saved.

It is especially irritating when Windows fogs up and is trying to draw the blinds, and it shuts down SAS and other programs. I suspect though that in that situation, a cancel button would be totally ineffective and answering "No" is the only safe option.

My only workaround is to save frequently, and if I accidentally trigger the "changed flag" on a piece of code I don't want changed, then I need to close and reopen that object to prevent overwriting.

If you have the time and resource to set it up, then changes are only made on programs in your own directory and not migrated until all is finished and tested, and is done by someone else. That way you don't have access to accidentally overwrite critical programs, and you can always answer yes to saving the changed code.

Kind regards

David

Oh yeah, that bites me about once a month. CANCEL should always be an option here...just never gave it much thought until reading this post. Good thought.
