The Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group (PAFMG) employs 850+ MDs and will grow to over 1,200 MDs in 10 years, 4,000 support staff are employed by PAMF to support the Health Care Division as well as the PAMF Research Institute. Net revenue flowing through PAFMG is $400 million today and is projected to grow to $900 million over the next 10 years.
REQUIRED SKILLS: A Master's in Statistics, Biostatistics, Informatics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field. A Ph.D. or Dr.P.H. inStatistics, Biostatistics, Informatics, Bioinformatics. Coursework in statistics, biostatistics, statistical computing, minimum 2 year experience in statistical programming and statistics, and experience with large, relational databases. Demonstrated proficiency in using SAS (Base, Stat, Graph, Access) in Windows and SQL is necessary along with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access). Must possess excellent quantitative data analysis skills and ability to use statistical software and have the ability to manage multiple projects. Excellent analytical, research, written, verbal and visual communication skills required.
Preferred: Experience with transactional and clinical databases with a mindfulness for data validation, quality, programming efficiency, size.Demonstrated experience with observational and longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, resampling methods. Experience working on a research team with statisticians and physicians. Minimum 2 years experience using SAS 9.x.Preference for experience with SAS 9.2, Enterprise Guide 4.x, JMP 7.0+, Stata 10+, R/Splus, SQL (Microsoft SQL Server 2005). Any experience in using Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop for retouching graphs and visuals is desired. A Ph.D or Dr.P.H. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Informatics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field is desirable. Experience with transactional and clinical databases with a indfullness for data validation, quality, programming efficiency is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Working in our Research Institute is in Palo Alto, CA, you will perform the following functions: Manage Data: Work with Information Analysts to implement computational and size efficient methods of managing relational database management systems. Validate and investigate data integrity obtained from multiple sources using statistical techniques and with consultation from investigators and statisticians. Prepare datasets for analysis for requesting investigators and statisticians.
Statistical Analysis: Perform complex statistical analyses for a broad spectrum of types of data and types of studies. Implementing data analysis plans. Identify relationships and trends in data, as well as any factors that could affect the results of research. Conduct appropriate analyses of data using analytic software such as SAS, JMP, R/Splus, STATA with investigator supervision and statistician input. Evaluate research studies and recommend statistical procedures, including, but not limited to, hypothesis tests, regression models and multivariate analysis to analyze the data. Prepare tables, graphs and images for results. Assist with research plan development: As prioritized by the investigator, provide assistance to fellows in providing input to the study design and data analysis plans. Assist with write-up of preliminary results sections for grant proposals. Assist in identification and description of variables and measures for grant proposals. Develop measurement instruments: Assist in identification of appropriate variable measures in electronic health record databases. Plan data collection methods for specific projects, and determine the types and sizes of sample groups to be used, expected power and detectable difference.
Teach: Provide training for fellows engaged in the collection, tabulation and analysis of statistical research data. Present talks, seminars or other oral presentations of the methodology and analyses used in scientific studies.
Manuscript Writing: Assist investigators with writing methods and results sections of manuscripts. Review drafts of manuscripts for clarity, statistical methods, and analytic accuracy.
Presentations: Assist in preparation of study results for presentation. Develop tables and graphs to communicate research results to non-statisticians.
