sasCommunity Tip of the Day

Sometimes you want to do specific analysis on a subset of data in your own SAS session on your PC using a large data set from a remote server or mainframe.

Instead of pulling this large data set over the network to your PC and start programming, you first can, remotely, select only the needed records and pull the subset to your PC!

The program, at right, performs this task using remote library services to the remote SAS work library.

    libname mylib 'xxxx' DISP=SHR;
    data test1;
        set sashelp.class;
        where sex='M';
    %sysrput pad=%sysfunc(PATHNAME(WORK));
libname rwork "&pad." server=PRDSYS;
data test2;
    set rwork.test1;
