sasCommunity Tip of the Day

The federal fiscal year starts October 1 and runs through September 30. For example, FFY2010 is October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010. This date offset unfortunately does not conform with any of the typical formats provided with Base SAS.

Here's an easy to use bit of conditional logic that will any create a new year variable for Federal Fiscal Year (FFYear) based on any date:

if month(open_date) in (10 11 12) then FFYear = year(open_date) + 1;
else FFYear = year(open_date);

An alternate method is to use the INTNX function:

FFYear = year(intnx("MONTH12.10", open_date, 0, "E"));
