There have been a number of replies to an email thread that started with some observations on sample code - all with useful comments.
While having replied via email, I think we should consider using the Wiki to discuss and so I have (by and large) copied that email here.
Here are some quick thoughts on each point raised in the thread:
- WRT David's (could not discern if he has an id or what it is) observation about sample data, perhaps [[Category:Sample Data]] is something to consider. Eventually media wiki will support intersections (and unions) of Categories, and once it does it might be easy to search for SAMPLE DATA and FINANCIAL or . . . .
- On Paul's comments about macro code, perhaps that is a good reason to not upload SAS files and instead use the Wiki history to show who changed the code and when.
- On a template, I know Ron has done quite a bit with templates for documenting macros and code. So maybe we have a [[Category:Macro]] and the category page can provide the template.
- I have already created a [[Category:SAS Code]] page and made it accessible from the Quick Links just off the main menu. The idea behind Quick Links is that we want to lock down the top level pages (probably) but we want to give anyone the ability to add something that is not too far away from the top of the menu hierarchy. Thus the idea of a [[Category:Quick Links]].
WRT taxonomies and categories, while we are still a small group, maybe we should try to put some content out there and react to it by creating the category pages we think are appropriate. Not sure it is worth the time right now to try and anticipate a build a sample taxonomy/category hierarchy.
